With our final tournament of year in the books, that brings the 2023 tournament season to a close. What a great year the Kentucky West division had! We had some new teams fishing with us this year as well as some returning faces; I know I enjoyed the fellowship of being with my fellow anglers and getting to know them as some of my great friends.

As far as the tournament goes for Green River Lake, we had a great turnout with 21 boats! Our winning team of Mattingly and Bryant brought in a healthy sack of summer bass weighing 17.39 pounds anchored by a 6.14 pound lunker! This lunker also took home big bass prize for the tournament and made for a close points race. The team of Mattingly and Bryant spent their day targeting different types of structure in 10-30 feet of water mainly using a football jig around brush piles and flats. They mentioned they weren't finding large schools of fish; just small schools in a lot of different areas. Mattingly told me they fished close to 30 different spots throughout the tournament day. The second place team of Brinegar and Walker also brought in a respectable bag of fish weighing 15.23 pounds anchored by a 5.14 pound lunker! Brinegar and Walker used jigs almost all day Saturday targeting 20-25 feet of water around channel swings with shallower flats nearby. They mentioned you could bring that jig off the shallower flat down off the ledge and get your bites. Our third place team of Denton and Easterly caught the majority of their fish in the 10-15 foot range using crankbaits, shakyheads and single swimbaits. With their bag being just shy of 15 pounds, they sure gave Brinegar and Walker a scare for second. Our last team to cash a check was Ayres and Ayres. This team also targeted the 10-15 foot range fishing brushpiles and "bluffy" style banks with deep water close by. This team caught their fish using single swimbaits early, then transitioning to shakyheads later in the day as the sun got high.

With our points race coming to a conclusion since this was our last tournament of the year; I am happy to announce that Phillip Brinegar and Mike Walker have punched their ticket to nationals! This team stays consitent EVERY tournament and it has paid off for them. They are heading to the Harris Chain of Lakes in the spring of 2024 and we would like to wish them all the luck!

Our Friday night meeting at Bloomington Chapel Church was phenomenal! What a great host Bloomington Chapel was to our Fishers of Men anglers. Working with John, Tony and the rest of his staff was exceptional. The food was amazing, the message was much needed and most importantly... thank you to the Bloomington Chapel youth group for everything you did that night. We love seeing kids get involved in our sport and our meetings! So from everyone here at the Kentucky West division.... THANK YOU!!
