The North Carolina East Fishers of Men Fenwick Local Legends Weeknight Series held fifth tournament of the 2026 season on Perquimans River, Friday, May 29, 2026. The weather was sunny and warm with highs in the 80’s with Southwest winds 5-10 mph which provided for comfortable day for our fishermen. Eight teams participated in the tournament and all the teams attended the pre-tournament meeting.

Chaplain Kenneth Wallace shared a personal moment as an illustration of how sometimes bad things happen in our lives. However, with Jesus, we can make it through. Kenneth showed how David was prepared fora bad thing in the form of a giant named Goliath. God had prepared David for that moment by having him spar with a bear and a lion. He probably thought those were not the best days but it prepared him. Jesus says in this world we have trouble, but HE has overcome the world!! Bad days will come, but take heart, Jesus is there with you. Pat Seigh closed us in prayer.

After reviewing the rules highlights, our fishermen set out on the Perquimans River in search of the winning catch. The fishermen found the bite to be a little tough, but as always, someone is going to catch a good sack.  There were 19 fish weighed for a total 46.08 pounds. 19 fish were released back into the water for 100% release. The average number of fish per team was 2, average weight per team 5.76 pounds and the average fish weight was 2.43 pounds.

When the teams came to the scale, Justin Chamblee and Josh Powell, brought a five fish limit to the scales that weighed 14.76 pounds for First Place with a nice 4.58 pound fish to anchor their bag. They took home $225.00 dollars for first place.  Second Place went to the team of Darren Saunders and Jason Smith with a five fish limit that weighed 13.17 pounds that included the Real Tree Big Fish for the tournament that weighed 4.92 pounds. They took home $55.00 dollars for Second Place and $40.00 for the Real Tree Big Fish. Third Place went to Jim and Greg Dick with 5 fish that weighed 8.88 pounds with a 3.39 pound kicker. There was only two places paid due to the number of boats entered in the tournament.

We would like to thank all those who helped with making this tournament a success, especially Kenneth Wallace, Gary Sawyer, as well as all our fishermen who helped with set-up and take down of the scales and equipment.   We also would like to thank all the Fishers of Men sponsors; Falcon Boats, Mercury, RealTree Fishing, Power Pole, Abu Garcia, Berkley, Fenwick, TH Marine, E3 Apparel and Frogg Toggs. We are very appreciative for their support!
