The 2020 Shakespeare Legacy Championship got underway Thursday evening albeit in a different way than ever before. In an effort to be sensitive to those who might be more susceptable to the Covid 19 virus Fishers of Men elected to do our first ever Virtual Championship meeting. Our teams registered in person over the course of 2 hours and still had the opportunity to purchase the ever popular Legacy Championship T-shirts and participate in our raffle where over $3500 in prizes were up for grabs.

The highlight of Thursday’s opening virtual meeting was our inspirational message brought by longtime Editor in Chief of Bassmaster magazine Dave Precht. Dave recently retired after a 40 year career at BASS where he was responsible for not only growing the publication to over 650,000 subscribers but overseeing the content that has made all of us better anglers over the years. He is truly a gentleman and a pioneer in our sport and we were blessed to have him share some of his experiences and his testimony with us.

Day 1 of the Championship got underway Friday morning under cloudy skies and a nice breeze, perfect weatherfor our contestants. With the 3-fish limit in effect to better take care of our resource during the hot weather big bites were at a premium.

Leading the charge on Day 1 was the always tough father and daughter team of Kent and Emily Ware who brought 3 nice largemouths to the scales weighing 10.28 lbs. Finishing Day 1 in 2^nd was the team of Jason and Braxton Hopper whose limit weighed 10.09 lbs. In 3^rd was the team of Barry and Jackson Isbell with 9.25 lbs. 4^th place went to Walter and Johnothan Gurgacz. Rounding out the top 5 was the team of Joe and Eli McKamey who brought 7.88 lbs to the scales.

Ourteams caught 119 fish weighing 222.75 lbs. Stay tuned for Championship Saturday results.
