Texas East's Kick Off event is in the books!

The 2021 season kick-off event was a huge success!   With the temperatures dropping we were still blessed to be having a pre-tournament registration and banquet COVID style, outside under a pavilion.   All 54 teams and some of their family and friends were present and the fellowship, even with face coverings, was great!  We were blessed to have Chick-Fil-A of Humble Texas provide their famous chicken sandwiches to add to our sack dinners of cookies, chips, candy bar and apples!  Our folks loved it!  Our speaker for the evening was supposed to be one of our Chaplains, Rusty West, but he was exposed to covid and was under quarantine, our back up speaker was Texas East’s Chaplain, Dr. Wayne Barth, but he came down with COVID the day before our banquet so consequently the folks got the ultimate blessing, I was on the stump for the night!  I shared words of a fisherman from the bible in 1 Peter 2, the instruction from Peter to not get caught up in the environment and situations of the day and react to the things of this world in a negative way but rather put a smile on your face and show the world who your father is!  Don’t let the world drag you down, keep smiling and go out each day seeking how you can be of service to someone else.

Blast off temperatures were a balmy 33 degrees and calm wind and our teams were excited to get to fishing.   Temps during the day warmed some but it was still pretty cool as they headed in for weigh-in.

Lots of fish weighed with stories of the big-uns’ that broke off at the boat flowing steadily.  When the dust and smoke cleared it was the great husband and wife team of Terry and Gwen Reed that took the honors of 1st place in 2021’s first event!  The Reed’s weighed in 17.45 which included Gwen’s 1st place big bass kicker that tipped the scales at 7.46!  Second place honors go to the team of Billy Waldrep and Justin Sowell with a sack weighing 16.38.  Rounding out the top three finishers was the team of John and Cody Finkbeiner with a bag that hit the scales at 15.85.  Second place Big Bass went to Gary and Jackson Babb that brought a 6.5 toad to the scales.  Jackson was beside himself excited for his dad’s catch, made everyone in the weigh-in area happy to see his excitement!

Our next event is on Toledo Bend on February the 6th out of Fin and Feather Resort.  Hope everyone stays on mission and invites another team to join with us!

Thank you all for allowing the Texas East Team serve you!  Blessings!
