 Great start to the weekend for the District 5 Championship, presened bt Realtree Fishing! Thank you to The hospitality of Mechanicsville Baptist Church, Richmond Region Tourisim, and Henico County! The message at the banquet from Journey Christian Fellowships  associate pastor Jared Harker was spot on, and reminded us of the urgency to put Jesus as the Lord of out lives and secure our eternity!

47 teams set out with some clouds and spotty rain on Friday morning to start our championship. The majority of the day remained cloudy, with the winds building slightly. The fishing turned out to be fairly steady for most of the teams, all but 8 teams were able to bring a limit of bass to the scales.

Sitting on top at the end of day one with 16.88lbs was Michael Heatwole who was fishing solo for his team. Close behind in second place with 16lbs even was Tim and Nick Covington.  Third place on the day was Kevin King and Bryce Henley with 14.84 lbs. The current 9th place (not counting any double qualifiers) cut spot is 12.88lbs, so its still a very tight race on a tidal fishery that can change moods on a dime!! Big fish on day one was a 7.05lb beauty caught by the team of Jason Brooks and Neal Lloyd.

We look forward to tomorrow and seeing who comes out as qualifiers to the National Championship on Lake Eufala in Alabama this coming March!

Fishers of Men would like to thank all our National Sponsors;
