We want to say thank you again to the House of Prayer church for sponsoring and feeding the fishermen with a great meal and message! We also want to thank the LORD for sparing one of our own! Just before the meeting started Thursday night, director Chuck Bridgewater was in the turn lane to enter the church parking lot and an on coming car crossed the center line hitting Chuck almost head on and deflecting into the other lane side swiping a car in that lane. Everyone walked away with minor scratches, I say they all walked away because every vehicle was a total loss! Once all the preliminary excitement was over we registered a total of 22 teams, which included 3 adult/junior teams, & 2 Male / Female teams. The pastor then gave a strong message about knowing Jesus and not forsaking the assembly (Go to church) then, Director Bobby Madison and Bobby Eads discussed the rules and adjourned the meeting.
Day one on Lake Dardanelle started out with calm cloudy weather and a promising outlook for catching fish. However, the takeoff was the only thing smooth about the day. About 3 hours into the tournament the sky opened and a gully washer / toad strangler came down for about 45 mins., then the wind picked up making nice white caps across the entire lake. Once everyone made it back to weigh-in the real nastiness of lake Dardanelle came out and was not kind to many of the teams. 18 of the 22 teams only managed to bring 3 or less fish to the scales, only 2 teams, Smith/Pullium and Manuel / Austin managed a full bag with 5 keepers on day one. The Isley / Isley team brought 4 in for a total of 8.03lbs., Manuel / Austin team managed a 5 fish limit for 9.83lbs good enough for 3rd and Smith / Pullium with the only other limit tipped the scales at 10.01lbs for 2nd, However, the team of Sitton / Rawson only had 4 fish with big fish of the day of 3.78lbs to lead at the end of day one with 10.94lbs.
