The second stop for the Fishers of Men Indiana North Division on May 20th was Manitou Lake in Rochester, Indiana.
The group was hosted Friday night on nearby Bruce lake by Donn & Rebecca Gambrel. The Gambrel’s served up delicious beef steak sandwiches with side and drinks. Director Shawn Hamrick shared on being allured or tempted by the things of the world that might distract us from our faith and walked with God. He shared understand God’s grace is a key component to our walks of faith.
The Saturday morning tournament started out with a cool breeze and temps at takeoff of 48 degrees. The weather didn’t get much warmer on the day and only got to a high of 58 with the NNW winds causing a nice chop on the lake.
Shortly after take-off and on his first cast, Shanye Robbins put what would be the big bass of the day in the boat. Shayne cast off the corner of some steps from a dock with an Accent Fishing Buzz Bait is what it took to put the 3.62 pound bass in the boat. His partner Garrick Straber gave Shayne props for landing the big one on the day and later said that Shayne carried the team all day. The first bass helped set the pace for what would be a fun day for the duo as they brought in just over 10 pounds on the day and grinding out a 2nd place finish at 10.09 pounds.
Robbins and Straber would be out done on the day by the team of Gary Straber and Jeff Hackler picking up 1st place honors netting five for 10.48 pounds. Straber and Hackler had their limit by 9:30 catching most of their fish on a Raptor Top Water Frog. Gary said they were able to cull 5 more time but only a few of the fish helped them put extra weight in the boat.
The one - two finish helped Team Raptor take home the hardware along with the all bonus bucks prizes as Carl Davis and Jonathan Wetherald picked up a 3rd place finish putting five in the boat for 8.92 pounds.
Fishers of Men Indiana North will find them on Palestine lake for the third event on June 17th next month.
