31 teams took to the Harris Chain of lakes for the District 12 Championship on Thursday December 5th through Saturday December 7th, 2024 trying to claim a spot in the 2024 National Championship! Only six teams would prevail. The Thursday Night meeting was hosted by Berean Baptist Church of Okahumpka and Pastor David Downs brought The Word of God filling the anglers spiritually while Oakwood Smokehouse and Grill of South Leesburg provided an exceptional plate of BBQ blessing the anglers with a full belly before they tackled the Harris Chain of Lakes.
Day one of the event opened with 43 degree weather and 5-10 mph winds out of the north as anglers arrived at 05:30 to launch their boats into the frigid waters. We started the day off with a rules review, the National anthem, and opening prayer. At safe light, 06:35 hours, choppy waters and sprinkling rain greeted the anglers as they left from the boat ramp in their search for the illustrious best five bass of the day. The flights returned at their respective times to showcase their catches. Twenty-nine teams weighed in fish on day one with the team of Daniel Smith and Ben Smith leading the field by five pounds at the conclusion of the weigh in which totaled 254.85 pounds. The day one big bass recipient was the team of Daniel Smith and Ben Smith with a 5.92 pound stud. 24 teams entered the bonus bucks side pot with the day one team of Daniel Smith and Ben Smith taking the top spot with a day one weight of 18.70 pounds. The team of Dave Austin and Bryan Clark landed in second place of the bonus bucks with a day one weight of 13.27 pounds, and the team of Mike Crump and Kevin Izzi rounded out the days bonus bucks category with a day one weight of 13.16 pounds.
