The North Carolina East Fishers of Men Firefly Weeknight Series held their eighth and final tournament of the 2025 season on the Little River, Friday, September 26, 2025. The weather was partly cloudy with high humidity and temperatures in the low 80’s. There was a threat of rain and storms with variable winds during the evening. Nine teams participated in the tournament and all the teams attended the pre-tournament meeting.

The meeting was started with a message given by Tournament Director Patrick Seigh.  The message was titled “Salvation”. His message answered several questions. 1. How can I be saved? Acts 29 -34 discusses how Paul and Silas were arrested for preaching the name of Jesus in the streets of Rome when while in jail, a great earthquake occurred and all the chains fell from the prisoners. The prison guard was going to fall on his sword for fear all the prisoners had escaped. Paul and Silas stopped him and proceeded to explain how he could be saved. The guard and his family accepted Jesus that night and were baptized. 2 Saved from what? Pat referenced Romans 6:23 which says “For the wage of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord”. He stated that God provides salvation and reference 1 John 2 who tells us that if we sin, we have an advocate who pleads our case before the Father. He is Jesus 3. What do I need to do? Acts 16:31 tells us that if we believe in the Lord Jesus, we will be saved. Pat quoted Ephesians 2 and John 3:16 to provide additional support to answer the question. In closing, Pat spoke about the sinner’s prayer and discussed aspects of the prayer. He led the group in prayer emphasizing that if they understand we are all sinners and in need of salvation through Christ Jesus.

After reviewing the rules highlights, our fishermen set out on the Little River in search of the winning catch. The fishermen found fish to be scattered and the bite to be slow.  There were 30 fish weighed for a total 75.14 pounds. 29 of the fish were released back into the water for 96.7% release. The average number of fish per team was 3, average weight per team 8.35 pounds and the average fish weight was 2.50 pounds.

When the teams came to the scale, Justin Chamblee and Josh Powell, brought a five fish limit to the scales that weighed 16.35 pounds for First Place with a nice 4.40 pound kicker fish. They took home $255.00 dollars for first place.  Second Place went to the team of Gerald Murray and Alan Meads with a five fish limit that weighed 15.17 pounds which included the Big Fish for the tournament that weighed 6.18 pounds. They took home $60.00 dollars for second place and $45.00 dollars for the Big Fish. Third Place went to Tommy Houlroyd and Darren Saunders with five fish that weighed 13.46 pounds. There were only two places paid due to the number of boats entered in the tournament.

North Carolina East Series would like to congratulate our 2025 Firefly Weeknight Series Points Champions Justin Chamblee and Josh Powell who finished with 1585 points!  Great work!

We would like to thank all those who helped with making this tournament a success, especially Gary Sawyer, Eric Ball and Frank Gunia as well as all our fishermen who helped with set-up and take down of the scales and equipment.   We also would like to thank all the Fishers of Men sponsors; Bass Cat, Mercury, Realtree Fishing, Power Pole, Firefly Outdoor and Marine, Abu Garcia, Berkley, Spiderwire, TH Marine and X2Power.
