The North Carolina East Fishers of Men Firefly Weeknight Series held their sixth tournament of the 2024 season on Pasquotank River, June 7, 2024. The afternoon started with temperatures in the high 80’s with sunny skies and a winds 10 to 15 mph from the SW with a pretty nice evening to fish. Nine teams participated in the tournament and all teams attended the pre-tournament meeting.
The meeting was started with a message from Pastor Alan Meads who is one of our Firefly Weeknighter Series fishermen. Alan gave a personal testimony about when he accepted Jesus as his Savior. He focused on three main points that included Love, Prayer and knowing the word of God in the Bible. He cited several verses from the bible that focused on Loving the Lord and loving one another. The second focus was the importance of prayer. Prayer is our way to communicate with God and provides us the opportunity to ask for his forgiveness for our sins. The third focus Alan mentioned was reading and the study of God’s word in the Bible. He mentioned that we as believers need to know the word to bring others to Jesus. Alan finished his message by handing our fishermen a nail for us to have in our pockets so that we would remember the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross and the pain he endured when they nailed him to the cross as a human sacrifice for sins so we would have eternal life.
After reviewing the rules highlights, our fishermen set out on the water in search of the winning catch. The fishermen found the bite to be a little stingy. There were 27 fish weighed for a total of 69.00 pounds. 26 of the fish were released back into the water for 96.3% release. The average number of fish per team was 3, average weight per team 7.67 pounds and the average fish weight was 2.56 pounds. When the scales opened, Gary Sawyer came to the scales with the Big Fish for the tournament that weighed 6.17 pounds. He took a check home for $45.00 for his efforts. When all the teams weighed in, our new team of Michael Looney and Michael Abel, brought a five fish limit to the scales that weighed 17.85 pounds with a nice 4.27.pound kicker fish to take First Place honors. They received a check for $255.00 dollars for the winning sack. Our second place finisher were Chris and Zach Meads, who brought 5 fish to the scales that weighed 11.57 pounds. They took home $60.00 dollars for their efforts. Third Place went Kenneth Wallace and Jason Samson who brought four fish to the scales that weighed 10.74 pounds. Due to the number of participating teams, only two places were paid.
