DIVISION YEAR TO DATE STANDINGS: | 2024 | 2023 |
On a warm Friday evening, the teams of Fishers of Men Indiana North Division gathered for their fourth event on Lake Manitou in Rochester, Indiana. The pre-tournament festivities were hosted by Schmack Em Bait and Tackle, which included a meal, a message, and a meeting. The atmosphere buzzed with camaraderie and anticipation.
Chaplain Adam Linkenhoker delivered an inspiring message, drawing from The Parable of the Prodigal Son in Luke 15. He shared insights about eight traps to avoid while serving Christ, urging the fishermen to stay true to their faith amid the challenges of life. His words resonated deeply with the group, setting a reflective and determined tone for the following day.
As the sun rose on Saturday, 11 boats set off across the partly cloudy waters of Lake Manitou. The gentle winds of 8 to 10 mph rustled the leaves, and by noon, the temperature had climbed to a sweltering 93 degrees. Despite the heat, the anglers remained focused, determined to reel in their best catches.
The weigh-in that afternoon was a scene of excitement and suspense. Nine teams brought their catches to the scales, each hoping their haul would secure a top spot. In third place, with five fish weighing in at 10.26 pounds, were Adam Linkenhoker and Mike Zerrian. The second place went to Gary Straber and Jeff Hackler, who presented four live fish for a total weight of 10.4 pounds.
The day’s champion, fishing solo without his usual teammate Dan Miller, was Al Hopkins. With a total catch of 12.77 pounds, Al clinched first place, marking his third event win of the year. He also earned the Big Bass Honors with an impressive 3.81-pound kicker, solidifying his status as a formidable angler in the division.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, the anglers reflected on their day and the chaplain’s message from the night before. They were reminded of the importance of faith and perseverance, both on and off the water.
Taking a well-deserved break in July, the Fishers of Men Indiana North Division looked forward to their next event on Lake Wawasee, scheduled for August 3rd. With renewed spirits and eager anticipation, they vowed to return with even greater passion for the sport and their faith.
