Lake Belton / Event #5 Fishers of Men Texas Central
Texas Central division wrapped up its 2025 season on Lake Belton this weekend, it was the perfect ending for a great season.
The event began at 3C Cowboy Fellowship in Salado, Texas on Friday night, the church welcomed us with open arms and bright smiles. The cooking team there prepared and served the anglers and their families a wonderful meal consisting of hamburger steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, rolls and desserts. We are blessed to have a church with wonderful facilities and personnel that are always willing to serve us when we are in town, they are incredibly welcoming, and we certainly appreciate them.
We had 78 personnel show up for the Friday night festivities which consisted of an incredible message presented by the Fishers of Men National Chaplain Mr. Kelly Barnett, he spoke on “What it means to be a Fishers of Men”. It was a great message that was well received among those gathered. We also had a very big raffle dedicated to raise money for a local family in that is in need, the Lord blessed this event with a church filled with wonderful people that were more than happy to help this family during this time.
We took time to honor the spouses in attendance, we had a total of 20 spouses recognized, we were able to give each one a gift and a yellow rose prepared by Fields & Flowers in Caldwell, TX. FOM is a family-friendly organization, and it warms our hearts to see all the spouses and family members at the events, truly a blessing for us. Thank you all for being such a big part of this team.
We had a dual event this weekend, a Legacy Series event as well as a Team Series event. Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail offers anglers the ability to qualify for National Level tournaments through regular Team Series events, as well as Adult / Youth Legacy tournaments. We have both here in the Central Texas area, this event permitted Adult / Youth teams to compete in both divisions.
Boats were lined up at Temple Lake Park when I arrived at 4:40am, anglers were preparing for the last battle of the regular season, we conducted boat checks and got them all on the water. We said a prayer and sent them off to battle it out on a beautiful Lake Belton day. Skies were clear all day, temperatures were warm enough to warrant a quick dip in the water between cast every now and then, and the wind was at a minimum for most of the tournament day.
At the end of competition hours anglers and their partners made their way to the scales with their bounty. It proved to be a tough day on the water for most, Lake Belton can be incredible one day and very tough the next.
The day ended with Jacob Froese taking the victory with a limit of fish weighing 17.79lbs, Brandon and Dale McQueen taking second place with a limit of 12.89lbs. Richard and Rudy Rodriguez secured third place in the Teams Series and second Place in the Legacy Series with a limit weighing 10.91lbs. Jason Garza finished the day in fourth place with a days catch weighing 10.68lbs. Fifth place was captured by Mitch Randles and Don Schuetze, the two came in with sack weighing 10.59lbs. Terry Deloach finished out the top 6 with a bag weighing 10.04lbs, his limit was secured with a 6.35 kicker that took the “Major Big Bass” honors for the day.
We closed the event out by giving back three entry fees at the weigh-in through our random boat drawings. Bill Shelnutt & Mike Smith / Chester Jenke & Trevor Rogge / Shannon Goad were the lucky anglers that won their entry fees back. It is always great to see all the teams hanging out at weigh-in, congratulating the winners and fellowshipping. Just another reason why we are “More than just another paycheck at the ramp” event.
I am a very blessed individual to be able to steward this platform, to coordinate for an opportunity for God to move, to ask for doors to be opened so that we may gather and provide something different, something special, something with more meaning than just another tournament. I am also very blessed with the team of individuals that he has provided to make this machine work; this trail is full of wonderful individuals that always step up to help without hesitation. It takes a team, and a team is always there, thank you to you all for your incredible support and help, to name a few: Melissa Eller, Nathan Eller, Chris Eller, Maycie Eller, Ty Eller, Colton Eller, (goodness, that is a lot of Eller’s). Bill Shelnutt, Jimmy Bennett, Kory Grelle, Amanda Payne, and I know I am forgetting several that always jump in and help tear down after being on the water all day. Thank you all so much for helping, for making this happen. I am blessed to have you all and your willingness to jump in.
Our 2025 Season ends with Jayson and Lake Kisselburg securing the “Angler of the Year” title. The father/son team have earned their auto entry into this year’s National Championship Tournament being held on Toledo Bend. The two weighed a total of 25 fish this season with a total weight of 68.75lbs. Congratulations Jayson and Lake.
We could not hold these events without amazing local sponsors, incredible businesses and individuals that have a desire to help pull the wagon for the purpose of Kingdom Building. I am so grateful to have the following companies on board with us on this mission, words cannot paint the picture of gratitude I have for you all.
