Fishers of Men Texas Central wrapped up event one of the 2026 season today on Canyon Lake. The festivities began Friday night at Grace Bible Church in Canyon Lake Texas; the men of the church treated us to a pancake and sausage dinner that was fantastic. Pastor Bill Cooley gave a great message, and it was well received by all.

We greeted 72 individuals at the pre-tournament meeting, what a joy it was to see all our old friends and to meet all the new families and anglers that registered for this season. It was truly wonderful meeting everyone and spending time in fellowship. We were able to celebrate all those that sold over 1 thousand dollars’ worth of raffle tickets during the off season, each person received a free rod. Chris Eller took home three free reels and two free rods for selling 5k of tickets. He also took home a new AR-15 rifle for being the top ticket salesman. Chris and his dad Nathan also sold enough to have their entry fees paid for each event this season. Well done guys, your hard work paid off.

Saturday morning, we gathered at Canyon Lake ramp 18 for boat checks and launch. It was a very cold morning with temps dipping just below freezing at launch time. We sent those fiberglass war horses off one by one to battle it out against the cold and wind that would soon begin. By noon the wind was blowing way more than the weather man had predicted.

At 3pm the anglers came in all bundled up, some with smiles of success and some showing misery as they braved the cold and wind all day long. Bryan Cotter and Darrell Denton were certainly smiling as they approached the scales, the two caught a limit of fish weighing in at 17.34lbs. The two secured first place for the first event of the season. Second place was captured by Mike Nichelini and Frank Ono with a limit weighing 17.18lbs. Third place honors go to Chester Jenke and Trevor Rogge; the team secured this position with a big girl that took big bass for the day weighing 4.91lbs. Brennan Fertig and James Beauchamp grabbed ahold of fourth place with a limit tilting the scales at 15.03.

We paid out 7 total places today, and we added an additional $2400.00 to our original pay schedule thanks to our off-season gun and gift card raffle.

I want to say thank you to our wonderful anglers, their amazing families and to our team for making this event so special. Heather King, Candice Kazmir, Melissa Eller, Maycie Eller, Ty Eller, Nathan Eller, Chris Eller and last but definitely not least; our amazing chaplain Bill Shelnutt.

Texas Central Division is very grateful to our local sponsors; Diamond M Land Management, Healthy Self DPC, Custom Truck and Wheel Killeen TX, Bingham Marine Texas, Major Services, Wave 6 Operations LLC, Tyler Wrap Company, Coda Lures, Pro Tec Products, Barracuda Baits & Tightlines Premium Tackle.
