Lake Murray District 3 Championship Day Two October 3, 2026 Day two of the Fishers of Men District 3 Championship brought our anglers back to Lake Murray for the final day of competition out of Dreher Island State Park. Early-morning observations in the nearby Columbia area showed cloudy skies, calm winds and temperatures in the low 70s. Saturday's forecast called for light winds, a high near 81 degrees and a chance of afternoon showers as teams set out to secure the championship and qualify for the National Championship. When the scales closed, Tyson Alvanos claimed the District 3 title with a two-day total of 41.59 pounds. His five-fish limit of 22.82 pounds was the heaviest bag of day two and included a 6.18-pound bass, the day's biggest fish. Tyson described a day spent running all over the lake, burning approximately 30 gallons of fuel while throwing topwater and a fluke for herring-related fish. He played the numbers game, making repeated presentations and covering water to find fish ready to bite. His total gave him a 4.53-pound margin of victory. Finishing second were Greg Glouse and Joe Anders, who brought 18.12 pounds to the scales on Saturday for a two-day total of 37.06 pounds. Their day-two fishing centered on a more traditional topwater bite. They reported missed opportunities during the tournament and said they needed a couple more big fish. Although Lake Murray was not fishing as well as they normally expected, quality bass were still available, and their catch secured the runner-up position. Joey Sabbagha and Dalton Dowdy finished third with a two-day total of 36.31 pounds after weighing a 19.77-pound limit on day two. They worked topwater along outside grass lines, with their best action coming between about 9 a.m. and noon. The bite became much tougher later in the day, but they continued running their pattern and found enough bites to earn a place in the top three. Fourth place went to Marshall French and Tripp Poplin with 36.04 pounds over two days, including a 20.11-pound limit on Saturday. Rounding out the top five were Hunter Jenkins and Paul Bourcq with a two-day total of 34.88 pounds and a day-two net weight of 18.46 pounds. Alvanos also earned the highest-finishing Falcon boat honor. GL Compton and Lane Clark, boat 18, were the highest-finishing Mercury team, placing sixth overall with 33.33 pounds. Tanner Lindler and Joseph Frierson, boat 14, were the highest-finishing adult-junior team, while Tripp and Ashley Fryar, boat 34, earned the highest-finishing male-female team honor. Randy and Kevin Dickson, who finished eighth with 30.21 pounds, and Landon Gramling and Tucker Veronee, who finished ninth with 29.55 pounds, also qualified for the National Championship.
