MONTICELLO, Ind. — Cool spring temperatures and changing skies greeted anglers Saturday, May 2, during tournament action on Lake Freeman as teams battled challenging conditions throughout the day. Temperatures hovered between 45 and 48 degrees through much of the morning and early afternoon before peaking at approximately 50 degrees at 1:57 p.m.

When the scales closed, Garrick Straber and Mikael Robbins claimed first place with a four-fish limit weighing 13.31 pounds. The duo also secured big bass honors with a 5.26-pound largemouth, helping separate themselves from the rest of the field and earning 200 points for the event.

Corey Smith and Danny Rhoades finished second with four fish totaling 10.44 pounds, anchored by a 4.35-pound bass. Gary Straber and Jeffery Hackler placed third after bringing in three fish weighing 8.39 pounds.

Adam Linkenhoker and Ashlee Linkenhoker took fourth place with two fish weighing 5.80 pounds and matched the second-largest bass of the event at 4.35 pounds. Jerad Schwedler and Kristy Feld rounded out the top five with three fish totaling 4.59 pounds.

Carl Davis and Sharon Davis finished sixth with 4.13 pounds, followed by Jeremy Andrews and Kevin Clark in seventh with 3.05 pounds. Kelvin Michael and William Michael placed eighth with a single fish weighing 1.52 pounds.

Jason Smith and Brandon Garnett, along with Anthony Sivits and Mason Sivits, were unable to bring fish to the scales but still earned participation points. Matt Collins and Jeanette Wilkins also finished without a fish recorded.

Despite the cool temperatures and changing cloud cover, anglers found success targeting spring bass patterns on one of northern Indiana’s most popular tournament fisheries.

The third event will be back in Monticello, In at the end of the month but this time on Lake Shafer.
