The North Carolina East Fishers of Men Fenwick Local Legends Weeknight Series held their first tournament of the 2027 season on Pasquotank River, Friday, October 30, 2026. The weather was bluebird skies a slight breeze out of the west and 73 degrees that made for a comfortable fishing day however created an extremely tough bite. Eleven teams participated in the tournament and all the teams attended the pre-tournament meeting.

Gary Sawyer, who is our weighmaster, gave the message entitled “Giving our worries to God”. Gary spoke about the saying “let go and let God” but mentioned how hard this is for us to do. Many times we try to handle our problems on our own which rarely works but when we finally acknowledge that our way isn’t working, we turn our problems over to God and pray for his help. Gary read 1 Peter 5-7 which tells us to give all our worries and cares to God and find comfort in the Lord. He also mentioned Philippians 4: vs 6-7 which tells us to not worry about anything and pray about everything. When we tell God what we need and thank him for all he has done, we experience Gods peace. Gary also spoke about 1 Corinthians 10:13 when we allow temptations to be more than we can endure, remember God is faithful and through the power of Jesus Christ we will defeat the enemy. Luke 1:37 tells us that nothing is impossible with God. In closing Gary tells us to pray to God about our worries and ask him for wisdom and discernment as the first step and then trust God and don’t look back!

After reviewing the rules highlights, our fishermen set out on the Pasquotank River in search of the winning catch. The fishermen found the bite to be very challenging but someone usually figures them out. There were 19 fish weighed for a total 40.48 pounds. 19 fish were released back into the water for 100% release. The average number of fish per team was 1, average weight per team 3.68 pounds and the average fish weight was 2.13 pounds.

When the teams came to the scale, Pat and Isaiah Seigh brought the only five fish limit to the scales that weighed 7.97 pounds for First Place. They took home $315 dollars for 1st Place.  Second Place went to the team of Kenneth Wallace and Jason Samson with two fish that weighed 7.84 pounds that included the Realtree Lunker for the tournament that weighed 4.96 pounds. They took home $70.00 dollars for Second Place and $55 dollar for the Realtree Lunker. Third Place went to Chris Vaughan with two fish that weighed 6.47 pounds. There were only two place paid due to the number of boats entered in the tournament.

We would like to thank all those who helped with making this tournament a success, especially Kenneth Wallace, Gary Sawyer, Eric Ball, and Isaiah Seigh as well as all our fishermen who helped with set-up and take down of the scales and equipment.   We also would like to thank all the Fishers of Men sponsors; Falcon Boats, Mercury, RealTree Fishing, Power Pole, Abu Garcia, Berkley, Fenwick, TH Marine, E3 Apparel and Frogg Toggs. We are very appreciative for their support!
