We held our first Legacy event of the year on the Portage River near Lake Erie. This was an early tournament, but we wanted to let the kids experience the great fishing that can happen there early in the spring before the state changes the catch limit. We were not disappointed in the results, of the thirteen teams entered eleven limits were brought to the scales. Ten of the eleven teams with a limit had weights of over eleven pounds.
Since the morning bite in the spring is not an issue we did not blast off until 9:00 a.m. to allow those that had a long drive a little more sleep. With the late start we also changed the weigh-in time 3:00 p.m. After the weigh-in while we were picking winners and writing checks our Champlain Steve Dungan lead the kids and the parents in a devotion. After the devotions we handed out bags of baits to all the kids which also included a $10. Gift card for McDonalds.
First place honors went to the team of Justen and Ty Fain with five bass weighing 15.99 lbs. This team has been fishing with us for a long time and you can be sure they will find the fish and finish towards the top. Great catch guys. The team of Steve and Noah Dungan brought five bass to the scales weighing 14.19 lbs. which also included the days big bass weighing 5.04 lbs. Third place went to James Brown and Ryan Marshall with a limit weighing 13.57 lbs.
Also, a shout out to Garrett Northrup for catching the largest bass of all the juniors. Garrett caught a 4.41 # largemouth.
Thanks to all of you for fishing with us. We hope to see you all at Grand Lake St Marys on May 28.
