Our fourth tournament of the year is in the books and boy was it a tough one. Many anglers struggled during practice and much of the same results on tournament day. With only four teams weighing in limits of fish; Kentucky Lake/Lake Barkley proved to be a tough monster on Saturday. Our winning team of Grant and Ingram brought in over 15 pounds of Lake Barkley largemouth. A very respectable sack of fish that they had to work for... they mentioned those five were hard to come by on Saturday. Junk fishing shallow paid dividends for this team as they flipped around texas rigged creature baits near laydowns and bushes in 5 to 10 feet of water. This team spent their day on Lake Barkley rather than Kentucky Lake and it seemed to be the right move for a good paycheck. Our second place team of Yates and Turner stayed on the Kentucky Lake side and decided to fish for smallmouth. Not a typical move to fish for smallmouth on Kentucky Lake, but this sure paid off for this team! They had two smallmouth over 3 pounds and came in with a total weight over 13.5 pounds; four smallmouth and one largemouth. Yates and Turner were local to this area and that seemed to help just a little. They caught all of their fish on crankbaits in 10 to 15 feet of water. Yates mentioned those were the only 5 keepers they had all day and they fished multiple spots to find them. Our third place team of Ayres and Ayres came in with 5 bass that weighed just a little under 10 pounds.... not the biggest sack by far, but enough to cash a check. They caught all of their fish on finesse jigs and shakeyhead worms fishing around boat docks and shallow cover in 6 to 12 feet of water. Although this team caught around 20 fish throughout the day, only 5 measured over that 15 inch mark.

As you can tell, Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley are not what they used to be... but it's the same conditions for everyone. As anglers we are required to adapt and re-learn these lakes. The trick to this tournament was simple... just catch a limit. Catching five fish for this tournament went a long way. Regardless of tournament weights, our Friday night meeting was phenomenal. We had a small setting at the community center in Mike Miller Memorial Park. Our great friends Floyd and Dee Ann Williams helped us find our meeting place and they even cooked dinner for us that night! We gave away over $500 worth of prizes and had a "bible study" type lesson lead by Mr. Denzel Ayres. Everyone participated and enjoyed the meeting.

We have one tournament left before our point championship team is crowned and it's a tight race for the top 5 spots! Be sure to come out and enjoy our last tournament with some great friends!
