The FOM Maryland team division held its first TX for 2022 out of Elk Neck State Park on the Chesapeake Bay on April 9, 2022. We had clouds, sunshine, wind, calm, rain, and hail…in other words, typical Maryland weather. After a warm spell in mid-March and then a cold blast 2 weeks ago, the water temps have been hovering in the 49 – 51 degree range and the fish have been holding off on their shallow spring rituals making fishing a bit challenging!
Eight teams braved the morning rain squall and headed out into the bay in search of 15” bass. Tom and Jimmy Rufenacht brought in a limit of 5 fish for 19.19 lbs for first place. Long time Maryland fisherman Tommy Turner and George Fortner brought in two fish for 5.23 lbs. Deric Parker and Jeff Semans brought in the big fish of 4.49 lbs.
Thank you to Prince of Peace Baptist Church in Fallston, MD for hosting the tournament meeting on Friday night. Thank you also to all the family members present who came out to serve and to support us. A special thank you goes to our Chaplain Paul Wiley for delivering the message. Strait is the gate and narrow is the way which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat. We are so thankful for Jesus Christ, who is the Way, the Truth and the Life! Thank you to Ted Quatman who hauled and helped with the weigh in site and equipment.
Our division got a late start due to getting a new director (Tom Rufenacht.) I encourage you to give the FOM Maryland division a try this year. It is a great family atmosphere with a free meal and meeting on Friday night. If you fish 3 of the tournaments, you will qualify for the District Championship which will be held on Kerr Reservoir out of the Occoneechee State Park Ramp on September 16-17, 2022. See details at fomntt.com. See you at the next event which is April 23rd out of Anchor Marina, In North East, MD.
