Well, our first tournament of the year is in the books and tough doesn't even describe the day... As you can see on the results, catching keeper fish was hard to come by. With the water being 21 feet below full pool, a cold front blowing in Friday night, misting rainy conditions, boat traffic and the water being sucked 1.5 feet per day - CONDITIONS WERE TOUGH! However, the teams that were able to find a pattern and put 5 fish in the box early, cashed a check. Congratulations to the winning team of Elmore and Elmore on their 13 pound bag anchored by a 6.58 pound lunker. This team was successful catching their limit with craw-colored and fire tiger-colored crank baits running in the 5-10 foot range. The team mentioned they stayed close to the Moutardier area and only burned about 2-gallons of gas all day; congrats again to that team for finding the winning pattern on a tough, tough day. Our second place team of Jones and Jones came in with a 5 fish limit of all largemouth weighing just shy of 12 pounds. That team also was successful with crankbaits running in the 2-10 foot range near the mouths of creeks. Our last team to cash a check was the team of Rediess and Haley with a mixed sack of largemouth and spots weighing 10.64 pounds. This team also had luck with crankbaits early, but as the day progressed, the fish seemed to move off the banks and suspend. They were able to fill their limit with a Damiki rig livescoping. A big thanks to all the teams that came out to participate on a STINGY Nolin River Lake. Special thanks to Clearview Baptist Church for hosting our Friday night meeting - the food was great, the people were amazing and the devotional was much needed! Th next tournament is just 3 short weeks away, so get those entry fees in!
