2024 Legacy Series National Championship

Smith Mountain Lake

 

The pre-tournament meeting was held at the Pigg River Community Center just outside of Roanoke, VA.   Forty-three teams of adults / Youth, family and local sponsors attended the meeting, A complimentary meal of BBQ pork, chicken, greens, mac and cheese was served.  Many went back for seconds which indicated the food was exceptional.  Before introducing the quest speaker Al Odom provide our heartfelt thank you to the following businesses supporting this year’s championship.

They are John Oney of Visit Virginia Blue Ridge; Kevin Tosh of Franklin County Tourism, Andy Bruns of Smith Mountain Lake Chamber of Commerce, and Roy Enslow of Goodhue Boat Company and Blackwater Marina.  Thank you for your individual support for making our 2024 Legacy Series Championship a success and more importantly bringing smiles to many anglers and family. 

Bassmaster Elite Series Bass Chaplin Chris Wells was introduced as the quest speaker.  His message “A relationship with Jesus gets one to Heavan NOT Religion.  The message was powerful and touched many hearts with 14 first time professions of faith giving their life to Christ.  The committee, anglers and I want to thank Bass Chaplin Chris Wells for providing our message.  Thank you to the businesses mention earlier for opening their doors and accepting us with outreached arms and warm hearts. Our heartfelt thank you extended to all for a wonderful, blessed night. Many hands helped make this event successful.

The pre-tournament meeting was concluded by raffle prizes.  Congratulations to our participating anglers, their families and guest who won over a thousand dollars in door prizes, 

Day one began with showers in the AM with temperatures in the low 70’s.  Rain let up in the mid-morning ours but remained cloudy throughout the day.  The weigh-in was off the charts as they rolled in by flight assignments starting at 1:00 PM.  For this tournament only anglers had their eyes set in catching a three fish limit. Thirty-four teams out of Forty-one teams weigh in a three fish limits of large and small mouth bass. Smith Mountain Lake showed itself to be a truly amazing fishery. 

Currently in first place was the team of Cody Hoyle and Taylor Bogard with a weight of (11.34 lbs) Currently in 2nd place was the team of Josh and Jackson McGregor with (10.97 lbs) Currently in third is the team of Christopher and Wyatt Atkins with (10.84) Current Big bass honors go to the team of Clay and Truitt Riddle weighing in at (4.63 lbs) All teams reported catching bass throughout the day.
