David and Jeff Suratt’s 22.56 lbs Highlight a Blustery Day 1

The 2021 Fishers of Men BerkleyTeam Series National Championship kicked off Wed night in the beautiful new Sand Mountain Park Fitness and Aquatic Center. This National Championship event is hosted by Marshall County Tourism and Sports. Special thanks to Katy Norton for being such a fine host.

After our anglers had enjoyed some awesome smoked Chicken, Scalloped Potatoes, Salad and desert Andrew Nordbye who has become quite popular with his Fishing with Nordbye YouTube Channel shared what God means in his life and related how the grass in Guntersville cleans up the muddy water, Jesus cleans up the muddy lives we often live when we give our lives to him.

Day 1 proved to be very challenging to our anglers. For starters strong storms which rolled through Alabama dumped between 2-3 inches of rain on North Alabama in the final 24 hours leading up to the start of competition. Couple that with winds that started at Blast-off around 10 mph but quickly increased to a steady 15-20 mph with gust even higher lead to some really difficult fishing conditions.

But with the strength of this field someone always figures them out. Leading the charge on Day 1 was the AL-NW team of David and Jeff Suratt whose limit tipped the scales at 22.56 lbs and was anchored by a pair of 6 ½ lbers.

Coming in 2^nd was the SC-Lowcountry Team of Ronnie Mueller and Wayne Frierson whose limit pushed

the scales to 20.79 lbs and included the Day 1 Big Bass which weighed 7.47 lbs and earned them $500.

In 3^rd after Day 1 was the SC-Lowcountry Team of Dane Odom and Erroll Ducket who brought a limit weighing 19.78 to the scales

In 4^th was the SC-Upstate team of Jonathan and Wayne Botts who weiged 19.39 lbs

Rounding out the top 5 was the Al-NE father son team of Barry and Jackson Isbell who brought a limit worth 19.21 lbs

The day 1 cut weight was 12.77 lbs as teams jockey on Day 2 to try and get inside that 37^th place cut and earn a minimum of $1000

Altogether 61 five fish limits were caught and a total of 506 fish were brought to the scales weighing a total of 1308.62 lbs
