The North Carolina East Fishers of Men Firefly Weeknight Series held their second tournament of the 2023 season on the Perquimans River Friday, July 21, 2023. The temperatures were in the high 80’s, humidity was 60-65% with a 10-12 MPH wind coming from the northwest. 17 teams participated in the tournament and 16 teams attended the pre-tournament meeting.
The meeting was started with a prayer and our guest speaker, Pastor Lee Modelin provided a short message to our participants about how we all mess up and make mistakes at some level. Pastor Lee referenced the book of John Chapter 21 vs 1-17. The Pastor emphasized that we all mess up sometimes and are all sinners. But the good news is that Jesus loves us no matter what and will never leave us. He is our true friend! Pastor Lee also mentioned that if there was anyone who didn’t know Jesus that now was the time to seek him.
After reviewing the rules highlights, our fishermen made their way out to the Perquimans River in search of the winning catch. The fishermen found the wind to be a factor when running. There were 57 fish weighed for a total of 114.95 pounds. 56 of the fish were released back into the water for 98.2% release. The average number of fish per team was 3, average weight per team 6.74 pounds and the average fish weight was 2.01 pounds. When the teams came to the scale, Kenneth Wallace and Jason Samson had the winning catch that weighed 15.68 pounds with a 4.76 pound kicker. The first place prize was $415.00 dollars. Second place was awarded to Brad Gosser and Rodney Smith who brought 12.53 pounds to the scales, with a 3.74 pound kicker. They took $125.00 dollars home for their efforts. Third place was awarded to the Male/Female Team of Joshua and Ashley Thigpen with five fish limit that weighed 10.56 pounds. They took home $55.00 dollars for third place. The big fish award for the tournament went to the team of Chris Turner and Larry Mize who weighed a nice 5.01pounds fish.
We would like to thank all those who helped with making this tournament a success, especially Kenneth Wallace, Gary Sawyer, Isaiah Seigh and Dave Hickman as well as all our fishermen. We also would like to thank all the Fishers of Men sponsors; Bass Cat, Mercury, Realtree Fishing, Power Pole, Firefly Outdoor and Marine, Abu Garcia, Berkley, Spiderwire, TH Marine and X2Power.
