The North Carolina East Fishers of Men Firefly Weeknight Series held their second tournament of the 2024 season on Pembroke Creek, March 22, 2024. An approaching coastal storm left less than desirable fishing conditions with temperatures in the upper 50’s with 15-25 mph winds from the southwest.  10 teams participated in the tournament and all teams attended the pre-tournament meeting.

The meeting was started with a message from Pat Seigh who is our Firefly Weeknighter Series director. With the most important event in the history of the world approaching, which is a culmination of Holy Week, the resurrection of Jesus Christ gives hope to millions of Christ followers around the world. His message focused on 10 reasons why Jesus resurrection is so important. The 10 reasons led way to mentioning the path to eternal life. In John 11:25-26, Jesus says” I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die?” Do you believe this? Jesus question was posed to the group. If they could answer “Yes” to Jesus question, all the benefits of the resurrection was theirs. If they don’t yet believe, the were asked to put their trust in Jesus. Pat closed his message with a prayer.

After reviewing the rules highlights, our fishermen set out on the water in search of the winning catch. The fishermen found the bite to be very tough with windy conditions and rising water which made running to other rivers almost impossible. There were only 19 fish weighed for a total of 41.2 pounds. 19 of the fish were released back into the water for 100% release. The average number of fish per team was 1, average weight per team 4.13 pounds and the average fish weight was 2.17 pounds. When the teams came to the scale, Patrick Seigh with his grandson and partner Isaiah Seigh caught the winning 5 fish limit that weighed 13.51 pounds with a 5.39 pound kicker fish which was also the Big Fish for the tournament. The first place prize was $285 dollars and Big Fish paid $50.00 dollars. Second place was awarded to Jim and Greg Dick who brought four fish to the scales that weighed 9.29 pounds. They took $65.00 dollars home for their efforts. Third Place went to Jason Sampson and Kenneth “Batman “Wallace for a five fish limit that weighed 8.44 pounds. Due to the number of participating teams, only two places were paid.

We would like to thank all those who helped with making this tournament a success, especially Kenneth Wallace, Gary Sawyer, as well as all our fishermen who helped and participated. Fishers of Men would like to thank all our National Sponsors; Berkley , BassCat Boats, Abu Garcia, Mercury, Fenwick, Realtree Fishing, FireFly Outdoor & Marine, Power-Pole,  T&H Marine, Frogg Toggs, X2 Power and Jacobs Glass
